R-2 Contractors is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Shop Manager to oversee our equipment maintenance and repair operations. This role requires a strong leader with a deep mechanical background who can manage people, processes, and priorities while remaining hands-on as needed. The Shop Manager will play a critical role in supporting field operations and ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable, and ready to perform.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant industry or mechanical experience, preferably in heavy civil construction or a transferable industry
  • 5+ years of managerial or leadership experience overseeing employees
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in equipment repair, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance
  • Experience communicating with vendors for parts, warranty, and service coordination
  • Experience with document control and maintaining detailed repair and maintenance records
  • Proficient computer and software skills; experience with telematics/GPS systems preferred
  • Self-starter with strong planning, organization, and forward-thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a team player who can lead independently while also taking direction
  • Flexible schedule with willingness to accommodate operational needs
  • Willing and able to travel to project sites as needed
  • Duties may vary based on operational demands

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and manage shop personnel, providing direction, mentorship, and accountability
  • Perform and oversee mechanical repairs, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on company equipment
  • Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance and repair activities to support operational and project needs
  • Utilize computer systems and software, including telematics and GPS platforms, to monitor equipment performance and maintenance requirements
  • Communicate with vendors regarding parts procurement, warranty claims, service coordination, and technical support
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records for repairs, maintenance, inspections, and preventative maintenance programs
  • Travel to project sites as needed to assist with equipment repairs, inspections, preventative maintenance, and condition assessments
  • Proactively identify equipment issues, maintenance trends, and opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce downtime
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and industry best practices
  • Adapt duties and responsibilities as needed to meet changing operational requirements
