About The Position

To learn more about Transportation Services at Iowa State University, please view the link below. https://www.transportation.iastate.edu/ What You'll Do: Oversee daily maintenance shop operations, ensuring compliance with university policies, safety standards, and industry regulations. Supervise and coordinate workflow for vehicle maintenance, repairs, and upfitting across a broad fleet. Manage staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Monitor inventory, maintain accurate service records, and prepare reports on performance and cost analysis. Develop strategies to improve productivity and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks. Oversee quality assurance processes, including inspections and safety checks. Collaborate on budgeting, cost estimates, and long-term planning for equipment and staffing needs. Implement and enforce maintenance policies and procedures; investigate and resolve maintenance-related complaints. Manage vehicle incident and accident reporting, including coordination with Risk Management. Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and implement preventive measures. Provide staff training on vehicle care and ensure emergency/after-hours coverage. Coordinate with departments on equipment specifications, procurement, and resource planning. Lead cross-departmental collaboration and support outreach initiatives. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Level Guidelines • Aware of key annual objectives of department or work unit • Understands linkage between daily activities and achievement of annual objectives of department/work unit and explains to direct reports • Focus on ISU's mission and meeting department or work unit goals • Supervises a small department or work team • Often is a working supervisor with direct, previous experience performing work of those supervised • Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel; may share part of responsibility with higher level management • Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Automotive Technology, Business Administration, Transportation Management, or a closely related field
  • 5 or more years of supervisory or management experience in a fleet maintenance or transportation environment
  • Proven experience developing and implementing fleet maintenance policies, preventive maintenance schedules, and vehicle life-cycle management strategies
  • Proficiency in maintenance management systems and software, with the ability to schedule preventive maintenance, track repairs, and analyze data to improve shop efficiency and equipment reliability
