About The Position

Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. is a leading distributor of heavy equipment and cranes in the central United States. The Shop Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment, ensuring the functionality and longevity of equipment and work area by keeping the shop free of debris, spills, and clutter.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months’ experience in a fast-paced industrial cleaning environment
  • Ability to operate and maintain floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and other janitorial equipment commonly used in industrial settings
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively
  • Knowledge and understanding of industrial cleaning practices, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals and procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience maintaining cleanliness in a workshop or industrial setting is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
  • Maintains shop cleanliness
  • Sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors throughout the shop
  • Cleans work surfaces, benches, equipment, and aprons
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the shop bathroom
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of multiple rigging connex
  • Disposes of waste solids according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Ensures shop functionality and safety
  • Keeps shop refrigerators stocked with water
  • Maintains the cleanliness of waste oil tank, waste oil pigs, and drain pans
  • Ensures gas cylinders have protective caps while not in use and stores gas cylinders properly, verifying no blockage exists in front of them
  • Clears obstructions from electrical panels, fire extinguishers, and eye wash stations
  • Reports any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor
  • Maintains organization and proper storage
  • Stores and organizes PPE and shop supplies
  • Maintains proper storage of seasonal equipment (e.g., torpedo heaters, portable coolers, water hoses)
  • Maintains the cleanliness of walkways and doors
  • Reports on any safety hazards to the supervisor
  • Ensures consistent and reliable on-site attendance
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
