Our paid internship program provides a rich and rewarding hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to learn about our organization. Our high school interns work under the close direction of an experienced supervisor/manager to learn about managing, preparing, maintaining, and repairing equipment. Equipment is essential in the production and placement of asphalt pavement, and caring for equipment results in safer and more efficient projects. This internship will help with the ability to understand how different types of equipment work, how to participate in team communication, and anticipating project equipment needs.

Requirements

  • Must be available to work approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license.
  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Must pass post offer pre-employment controlled substance testing.
  • Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspections and testing.
  • Learn about maintaining inventory levels, parts estimates, and processing shop documents.
  • Learn about communication between outside vendors and Shop personnel.
  • Help with processing parts requests and maintaining equipment parts lists.
  • Help with collecting month-end equipment meters and fuel inventory levels.
  • Learn about monthly safety and environmental inspections.
  • Run errands for parts, supplies, etc. as needed.
  • Assist the shop with helping drivers, mechanics, laborers, etc. in locating parts and supplies.
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.
