About The Position

The Vehicle Service Attendant position involves non-skilled work focused on servicing revenue and support vehicles, ensuring they are clean and well-maintained. The role includes various responsibilities such as checking fluid levels, cleaning vehicles, and assisting mechanics with preventative maintenance. The position also encompasses leadership roles, such as the Vehicle Service Attendant Leader, who assists the foreman in overseeing the servicing process. Other related roles include Sign Worker, Steam Cleaner Operator, Tire Changer, and Shop Attendant, each with specific duties related to vehicle maintenance and facility upkeep.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English effectively.
  • Training and experience that provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of job hazards and safety precautions in the shops.
  • Ability to safely operate and drive VIA revenue buses and support vehicles.
  • Possession of a Texas Commercial Drivers Learners' License (CDL) (Class-B) and a Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) (Class-B) prior to completion of probationary period.
  • Ability to maintain and prepare records and follow oral and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Current CDL Class-A or Class-B license with Passenger Endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Service revenue vehicles, support vehicles, and equipment by checking and servicing tires, fuel, oil, and coolant levels.
  • Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of revenue and support vehicles.
  • Report vehicle defects and record servicing requirements and preventative maintenance data.
  • Assist mechanics with heavy lifting and parts aligning during preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Install route signage and maintain landscape around facilities.
  • Steam clean parts and vehicles, maintaining garage facilities and equipment.
  • Change tires on buses and paratransit vehicles, maintaining records on tires and responding to road calls.
  • Perform cleaning duties for VIA facilities, including bus stops and service stations.
