About The Position

This position supports academic, custom and public program development for Shoals Marine Laboratory's upcoming summer season. By professionally working with internal and external group leaders and instructors to plan programs to best support the mission of SML and the needs of the visiting groups. This position plans arrival and departure of groups, shipboard activities, island-based activities, classroom and laboratory use, instruction and support from SML staff, completes facility use agreements, updates internal schedules and records, coordinates visitor forms and waivers, creates estimates and invoices, as well as other duties to support the academic and programmatic needs of SML.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be eligible for employment in the United States.
  • Working knowledge of the flora and fauna in the Gulf of Maine is required.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with instructors, group leaders and other staff members.
  • Strong knowledge of computer skills; proven organization skills; attention to detail along with experience managing multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • The Programs Coordinator will work to ensure the successful planning of all programs, including working with SML Associate Director and Operations Director to ensure proper academic and logistical planning and alignment with SML Mission.
  • Working in collaboration with SML’s leadership team coordinate logistics with instructors and group leaders, including development and execution of SML Facility Use Agreements and ensuring completion of additionally required documents by visiting groups.
  • Coordination, communication, and facilitation of curricular needs of instructors and group leaders across departments to ensure smooth and successful delivery of programming
  • Organize and coordinate at sea educational activities.
  • Planning and scheduling for use of laboratory and oceanographic equipment for open-water activities is expected, paying particular attention to the health and safety of all users.
  • The Programs Coordinator will work to balance competing needs of multiple concurrent programs and be diplomatic in dealing with instructors, researchers, and staff.
  • Plan programs to ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for students, researchers, and visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned
