About The Position

Under the supervision of the shipping department supervisor perform required maintenance duties on operational equipment for loading in silos, making sure pumps are set at the right bins and load bulk cement into railroad cars for shipment to customers and terminals. Perform operational maintenance on machines in rail and truck silos. Perform preventative maintenance on various shipping equipment. Operate basement pumping equipment moving cement to shipping outlets ensuring that correct type of cement is being loaded. Must be able to load bulk trucks, load railcars, operate switch engine and weigh railcars. Check load slips to determine type of cement. Check to see if pump is on right bin to provide customer with proper type of cement. Turns on compressors and pumps. Must keep proper bin full for loading crew. Clean up loading area, as required. Performs maintenance on cement pumps, dust collectors and air compressors. Load railroad cars with bulk cement. Seal cars with proper tags after loading. Clean and inspect car doors before and after loading. Weigh all cars, empty and loaded. Keep tops of railcars cleaned of buildup. Monitor dust collectors in rail silo. Inspect and repair roof of silo, as required. Take sample of each car loaded and properly document. Will maintain a safe working environment, adhere to safety policies and practices, perform daily housekeeping of assigned area, perform daily workplace inspections, adhere to plant policies and proper use of plant radios. Be familiar with MSHA safety rules, safety procedures for plant mobile equipment, lockout/tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment, and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents and other environmentally sensitive materials. Ensure quality of work performed, participate in continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure. Will work where and when needed as directed by plant supervisory personnel to meet plant needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of all phases of shipping operation.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of silo configuration and type of cement shipped.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good physical condition as position requires bending, kneeling, walking, standing, climbing, stairs and lifting; high degree of manual dexterity and coordination and good eye/hand coordination.
