About The Position

Lewis Bakeries is hiring a Transportation Manager at our Murfreesboro TN location. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for supervising all positions within the Transportation department. The Transportation Manager will be in charge of assisting and coordinating the supporting shipping and transportation team to achieve a safe and efficient completion of the workload. This position has direct responsibility of ensuring all work activities under its span of control are performed with attention to the highest standards of food quality, safe processes, compliance with all appropriate legal requirements and a focus on continuous process improvement. The plant operates on a 24-hour continuous schedule; Transportation Manager must be available as needed to assist with coordinating transportation routes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 2-5+ years’ experience in a transportation, or related warehouse field
  • 2-5+ years’ supervision/management experience
  • Collaborative and able to build/maintain partnering relationships with other departments
  • Demonstrated ability to function successfully in a fast paced, changing work environment
  • 2+ years of working and interpreting DOT rules and regulations
  • Valid Class A CDL license

Responsibilities

  • Manage transport drivers and assist with Shipping as needed
  • Coordinate delivers and other processes on the shipping dock with Production, Shipping, and Sales
  • Plan delivery routes
  • Work with contract carriers and equipment leasing companies
  • Understand and follow all DOT rules an regulations
  • Accountable for correctly reporting and recording data as required.
  • Responsible for accident reports and resolution, working with the insurance carrier to achieve efficient claims processing
  • Do other job related routine tasks as required including training.
  • Assist in the on-the-job training assignments.
  • Promote safety and maintain sanitary work environment.
  • Coaches and counsels employees on job performance and teamwork
  • Reviews hourly employee work logs/sheets and verifies tasks performed
  • Strong leadership skills with the proven ability to set a vision, manage change, develop others, and strategically plan for continuous improvement
  • Ability to plan and coordinate use of manpower and equipment to ensure efficient distribution of consistent quality products
  • Ensure that consistent quality product is provided to Sales on a timely basis
  • Evaluate product quality to ensure compliance with established standards
  • Ability to trouble shoot equipment to ensure optimum product quality is achieved
