About The Position

The Shipping Technician is responsible for safely operating all equipment involved with receiving, storing, transferring, and loading of products via drums, trucks, rail cars, water vessels or tanks. The Shipping Technician is also responsible for the sampling of products and documentation of results; maintenance of Site/Terminal equipment; preparation of required reports; and general maintenance and upkeep of the facility. The Shipping Technician is a member of the plant Emergency Response Team and subject to call 24 hours/day 7 days/week for emergencies (hazardous chemical, personnel rescue and/or fire response

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • History of high job performance.
  • Knowledge of lock out tag out and permit to work processes.
  • Good ability of hazard recognition and safe work practices.
  • Strong work ethic and teamwork
  • Ability to use: The use of the following electronic devices will be required: electronic calculator, personal computer, handheld device, and two-way radio, LEL/O2 meter.
  • Knowledge of the following software will be required: Distributive Control System (DCS), Data Historian, spreadsheets, word processor, e-mail, and document management.
  • The use of the following tools and equipment will be required: forklift, loading chocks, railcar switching engine, hand tools, ladder, chain hoists, power washer, and man lift.
  • Ability to perform duties and climb stairs while wearing 35 lb Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Fire Bunker Gear or fully enclosed Hazardous Chemical Suit for 30 minutes at a time.
  • Ability to climb fixed vertical ladder cages at heights up to 30 ft. To a total of 200 ft. (Ladder cages provide rest stop every 30 ft.)
  • Ability to climb 6 flights of stairs carrying a weighted object, i.e., Fire Extinguisher.
  • Ability to open/close large valves.
  • Ability to enter enclosed spaces through 24” manway, for rescue and permitting purposes.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or rescue a person while wearing necessary PPE.
  • Able to pull approximate 100 lbs., as a part of Emergency Rescue.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment: hard hat, safety glasses, chemical goggles, faces shield, rigid safety shoes/boots, full/half face cartridge masks.
  • Ability to perform Emergency Response Duties.
  • Ability to safely work with hazardous chemicals according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work outdoors/inclement weather.
  • Job specific: Climbing, balance, stoop/bend, kneel, squat, crouch, crawl, lift, carry, endurance, push/pulling.
  • Must be able to tolerate confined spaces and work at heights.
  • Operate emergency response vehicles. Ambulance, fire truck, response van. Automatic/standard transmission.
  • Need to evaluate understanding of proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license to operate emergency equipment, i.e., ambulance/fire truck

Nice To Haves

  • Prior petrochemical industry experience, training, and higher education are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • All job activities should be executed in a safe and efficient manner consistent with the INEOS 20 Principles and the Culture of Prevention.
  • Maintain open communications with operating and loading personnel to ensure continuity of safe, efficient operations.
  • Work independently or in conjunction with other operators to Start up, Maintain, and Shut down the loading processes under normal and emergency conditions as outlined in operating procedures.
  • Follow all Site procedures and contribute to documenting and improving procedures.
  • Perform Job Tasks as outlined in SOPs.
  • Monitor the loading instrumentation and equipment to collect information and ensure proper operation.
  • Operate heavy equipment associated with moving empty / full railcars to facilitate the loading activities.
  • Record process information and operating activities on log sheets, logbooks and electronic formatted devices.
  • Responsible for performing a thorough shift handover during shift relief.
  • Collect samples as outlined in the sample plan or as requested.
  • Support plant unit operations as deemed necessary through guidance from the SSM and/or Step Up.
  • Complete computer-based training (VTA’s) on schedule.
  • Update Site Shift Manager or OSBL Day Manager, on process conditions changes.
  • Work in conjunction with other operators to maintain stable operation of the plant by communicating pertinent process information.
  • Work with supervision to troubleshoot and optimize the process.
  • Help maintain plant integrity by ensuring the equipment is in good, safe, regulatory compliant condition.
  • Identify maintenance issues to maintenance through communication or SAP/work order system.
  • Prepare equipment and pipe systems for removal, maintenance, or repairs.
  • Perform routine plant maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform routine and non-routine housekeeping required to maintain designated process area clean and safe.
  • Make the necessary field connections for loading/unloading operations.
  • Turn valves or move controls to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure and flowrate.
  • Routinely perform vessel loading as a PIC to maintain knowledge/certification and/or cover for vacant positions.
  • Assist the Safety Department in reviewing and auditing the process as requested.
  • Maintain up-to-date certifications, qualifications, and training records based on regulatory agency compliance and the INEOS emergency response team requirements, including off-site activities.
