About The Position

The Shipping & Receiving Operator is responsible for loading and unloading trucks, freight cars, conveyors, and other types of transporting equipment, either manually or with the aid of material handling devices. This role involves transporting equipment, materials, finished products, and supplies to and from departments and workstations using hand trucks, tote boxes, and other material handling equipment, including forklift trucks. The operator will also carry out a variety of manual and general labor duties, including material handling and providing routine coverage and relief for production workers when required. Day and evening shifts are available.

Responsibilities

  • Count, sort, identify, weigh, pack, unpack, load, unload and move products and materials within a storage facility to and from a loading area using a forklift, hoist, motorized conveyor, manually or using other material handling and power equipment.
  • Assist other workers to move, sort and pile materials and products, load and unload trucks and railway cars manually and using power equipment including a forklift.
  • Sort and distribute material to various areas in accordance to documentation.
  • Inspect and examine materials to assess conformance to quality specifications visually and using various instruments and gauges.
  • Organize orderly storage of finished goods in compliance with standard procedures.
  • Verify inventory counts and quantities of product produced and shipped.
  • Verify load to assure conformance with shipping documents.
  • Inspect carriers to ensure no damage to finished goods during transport.
  • Complete and maintain reports, shipping and transport documentation, and record logs.
  • Operate a computer terminal and other computer related equipment relevant to job duties.
  • Clean work areas and equipment, removing scrap, dust and other by-products from work and surrounding areas.
  • Perform all tasks assigned with adherence to safety and housekeeping procedures.
  • Train or assist in training new workers and participate in training programs to keep skills current.
  • Load/unload and transport raw materials, finished products and equipment throughout plant and storage areas manually or using powered equipment including a forklift.
  • Check, weigh and sort materials and products.
  • Physically count raw materials on a weekly basis.
  • Enter receipt of purchase orders on computer system, ensuring P.O. #, quantity, material is correct.
  • Place materials in correct locations.
  • Assist machine operators, shippers and other workers when required.
  • Check raw materials and finished products for quality defects and conformance to specifications.
  • Weigh, measure and check raw material samples to assess conformance to specifications using scales and gauges and visual verification.
  • Assist in set up and start up of machinery and equipment when required.
  • Sort, pile and transport raw materials and wastepaper to plant and processing areas manually or with powered equipment.
  • Carry out general duties such as basic painting, cleaning and other manual tasks.
  • Maintain walks and driveway applying snow and ice melting materials when necessary.
  • Remove trash and litter from manufacturing area and grounds.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of production materials replenishing when necessary.
  • Maintain and complete required records and reports.
