About the position

The Shipping/Receiving Clerk is responsible for overseeing the shipment and receipt of goods, ensuring accurate inventory management and timely processing of orders. This role involves coordinating with transportation suppliers, maintaining shipping records, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Receives goods and verifies the quality and count of all items unloaded from railroad cars, trucks and trailers; checks against suppliers count and immediately reports discrepancies to carriers and supervisor per company policy.
  • Verifies and records all items loaded for shipments, reporting discrepancies to Production Supervisor.
  • Carefully and accurately maintains shipping records for requested categories including goods returned, dunnage, and returnable pallets.
  • Maintains ERP to include shipment data to ensure that customer orders are updated and that appropriate billing documents are provided to accounting or other associated departments as required.
  • Notifies supervisor of major discrepancies, over-shipments, or substitutions.
  • Completes information on damage claims for in-transit damage.
  • Transports materials on shipping dock with a hand truck or other vehicle as needed.
  • Verify and maintain records on incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Prepare product for shipment, addressing, stamping, packing.
  • Arranging transportation of products; Fed Ex / UPS / TRK / Overseas.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Inspect outgoing shipments for damage or defects, records discrepancies, shortages, or damages.
  • Receive and inspect returned products, sort defective pieces.
  • Assist with month end inventory.
  • Inspect loading operations to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Report problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials, and labor to Production Supervisor.
  • Follow documented policies and procedures as designated by the company’s Employee Handbook and adhere to proper code of conduct while on company property.
  • Ensure work meets quality & safety standards and is performed according to established procedures. Finish the assigned work in the allotted time and maintain the production levels.
  • Work as a team and contribute to a clean, orderly, and healthy work environment.
  • Perform all other tasks as directed by your supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required.
  • Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify items received.
  • Basic understanding of railway, dock, and warehouse procedures.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or inventory software to maintain records, input data, and create reports.
  • Ability to follow proper safety protocols.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds, unassisted at times.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, and climb to access all parts of the machine.
  • Must be able to traverse Shipping/Receiving and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Effectively apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
