About The Position

The Head of Chassis Vehicle Dynamics & 3rd Party Manufacturing Purchasing North America is a managerial role responsible for overseeing strategic and operational activities related to purchasing in the North American region. This position involves managing a team of project and commodity buyers, driving day-to-day business performance, and ensuring alignment with global purchasing strategies. The role focuses on building strong supplier relationships, leading cost reduction initiatives, and contributing to the development of segment strategies while ensuring compliance with company policies.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of strategic purchasing experience
  • 2+ years of people leadership experience, either as a direct manager or as a leader of a cross-functional team
  • Automotive OEM or Tier 1 Supplier industry preferred, otherwise some form of heavy manufacturing
  • Strong professionalism, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to execute in a global matrix organization
  • Ability to analyze difficult situations, and acting quickly and directly
  • Works well with cross-functional stakeholders on risks, with opportunities and alternative solutions in mind
  • Promotion of diversity and fostering opportunities for personal/professional development
  • Able to build an effective team with a common objective, strong morale and spirit
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering/Technology, Business Administration, or equivalent working experience
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status

Responsibilities

  • Be a member of the Vehicle - North America Purchasing Leadership team and be an active contributor to the team's development
  • Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing team of purchasing professionals (commodity and project buyers)
  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to ensure cost-effective procurement while meeting quality and sustainability objectives
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and professional development opportunities to enhance team capabilities and support career growth
  • Build team cohesion and alignment with organizational goals by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and recognizing achievements
  • Lead the team to drive cost reduction initiatives through value engineering, sourcing, supplier development, and market analysis
  • Identify and mitigate risks to secure a resilient supply network
  • Manage purchasing QDCFTSR deliverables to support the regional and global business objectives
  • For assigned responsibilities and commodities, ensure the efficient development and timely delivery of all project sourcing strategies and commodity plans
  • Contribute to the development and execution of segment strategies, while managing supplier selection, relationships, partnerships, and negotiations
  • Take responsibility for managing the budget and controlling operating expenses
  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the global management team to ensure alignment on segment strategies and commodities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, supplier quality, operations, logistics, both brands Volvo/Mack, and project management teams to align purchasing activities with project timelines
  • Contribute to the development of the department's purchasing business plan
