Shipping and Receiving Clerk Summary: The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for coordinating the shipment and receipt of goods, ensuring timely and accurate processing of orders. This role involves preparing shipments, verifying incoming materials, maintaining inventory records, and supporting overall warehouse operations. The ideal candidate possesses attention to detail, familiarity with shipping procedures, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of postal and commercial shipping methods and procedures.
  • Familiarity with accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to receive, stock, and deliver goods.
  • Ability to track and distribute materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork and maintain records.
  • Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to detect problems and communicate issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare shipments for postal or commercial conveyance; determine the most economical and efficient shipping method.
  • Select appropriate shipping containers and pack items to ensure safe delivery.
  • Prepare bills of lading and check items against work orders to confirm quantities, destinations, and routing.
  • Receive and unload incoming materials; verify accuracy against packing slips and purchase orders.
  • Process return shipments from customers as needed.
  • Sort, count, package, label, insure, unpack, and log inventory that is shipped or received.
  • Inspect shipments for damages or defects; record discrepancies and notify supervisor or purchasing personnel.
  • Deliver items to requisitioning departments and obtain authorized signatures.
  • Trace lost shipments and process proof of delivery documents.
  • Maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
  • Operate dolly, pallet jack, forklift, shrink-wrap machine, and company vehicle for loading, unloading, and delivery.
  • Assist with routine maintenance of equipment and shipping area; lock warehouse and set alarms as needed.
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, quality improvement, and safety standards.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
