About The Position

The position involves packing and/or re-packing a wide variety of materials while ensuring compliance with various standards and regulations. The individual will verify the condition code of items to be packed and reject those that do not meet the release order requirements. The role requires determining the appropriate packing type based on documentation and shipping instructions, including military standards and regulatory requirements. The position reports to a designated Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.

Requirements

• Minimum three (3) months general work experience demonstrating ability to perform requirements of position.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be able to obtain a license to use MHE within 30 days of selection.
• Packers processing material requiring HAZMAT Certification must successfully pass training requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identifies, examines, classifies, accepts, rejects, and disposes of material as per DLA regulations.
• Ensures material is properly preserved, packaged, marked, and labeled in accordance with Military Standards prior to releasing material to storage or shipping.
• Selects proper size container and cushioning from available stock to ensure protection against damage.
• Conducts basic inspection and examination procedures for material.
• Reads specifications and photographs as required in DLA contract.
• May operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in combination with packing duties to load material on and off of skids, pallets, stands, and vehicles.
• Receives data from and inputs data to DSS and other automated systems in performance of duties and prepares basic reports.
• Counts, weighs, records data, prepares, and applies tags/labels.
• Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
