About The Position

Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking a Shipping Mechanic responsible for preparing products for shipment according to specific orders and instructions. This role requires a combination of mechanical assembly skills and careful attention to detail for safe and secure shipping. The Shipping Mechanic will be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to supporting the fleets that rely on Fairbanks Morse Defense for reliable power systems and services.

Requirements

• Mechanical assembly skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle small parts and operate a crane for larger components.
• Proof of US Citizenship and attestation of no dual citizenship due to access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information.

Responsibilities

• Receiving and preparing shipments based on assignments, shipping orders, or verbal instructions.
• Assembling parts onto engines, such as bearings, pedestals, and couplings as needed.
• Dismantling engines and pumps for export shipments before boxing them.
• Removing lifting heads, tightening cylinder head nuts, and closing openings on YLA bases as part of engine and pump preparation.
• Ensuring secure packaging of shipments, including padding sharp corners and applying cables or band iron to secure large loads.
• Creating shortage lists for any missing parts and handling small parts by hand, using a crane for larger components.
