About The Position

As a Shipping Lead (1st Shift) at Cengage in Independence, KY, you will take on an integral role in our distribution team. Your responsibilities will include: Leading daily standup meetings to assign tasks, communicate company updates, and foster team cohesion. Continuously assessing workload and workflow to ensure timely and efficient completion of shipping tasks. Collaborating with other departments and shifts to optimize operations and improve workflow. Safely operating and maintaining powered industrial trucks (PIT) and other equipment. Interacting with truck drivers for loading freight and signing Bills of Lading. Coaching and mentoring employees to improve their skills and performance. Developing and implementing continuous improvement plans with upper management.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent experience and be at least 18 years old.
  • Strong skills in recognizing and matching numeric and alpha groupings.
  • The capability to understand directions, write clearly, and carry out fundamental arithmetic.
  • Flexibility with work hours and mandatory overtime when needed.
  • Fundamental problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle workloads effectively.
  • Physical endurance to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. for 8-10 hours.
  • Compliance with all safety practices and policies, and maintenance of PIT certifications.
  • Adequate computer experience or prior RF unit experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior PIT and distribution experience, as well as previous leadership roles.
