About The Position

The Shipping Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the shipping department, ensuring the accurate and timely shipment of products. This role involves managing the daily shipping operations, supervising the shipping team, and ensuring compliance with shipping standards and customer requirements. The Shipping Lead is responsible for booking of freight for FTL, LTL and small parcel orders. The shipping lead functions as a manager on duty when the warehouse manager is not on site. Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Demonstrate basic math and computer skills
  • Must be organized and detailed oriented
  • Willingness to function in a team environment
  • Possess a sense of responsibility to accomplish task without supervision
  • Must be able to operate a tow motor/lift truck
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • A minimum of five (5) year’s experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • A minimum of three (3) three year’s experience in shipping department with knowledge of FTL, LTL and small parcel carrier processes
  • Ability to be certified as Licensed Forklift Truck Operator/Tow Motor Operator
  • Advanced computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and understand packing list, bill of lading and shipping and receiving instructions
  • Ability to understand shipment scheduling and special instructions
  • Complete paperwork and label requirement for shipments
  • Knowledgeable with appropriate methods of shipment and proper packaging requirements
  • Knowledgeable of all departments product codes and shipping requirements
  • Knowledgeable of warehouse organization and proper FIFO practices
  • Unpacks, examines and routes incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Receives and processes all defective parts returned for replacement or credit
  • Knowledgeable of printing department reports: customer shipping/delivery reports, pick sheets, bills of lading, billings and labels, certs and MSDS
  • Performs all computer functions necessary to ship and track goods, including label preparation
  • Schedules trucks for pickups
  • Reports defective material or questionable conditions to the department supervisor
  • Perform cycle counts as required
  • Ability to properly utilize RF Smart scan device
  • Execute complex tasks in the Netsuite ERP environment
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Assist in training new warehouse associates on job tasks and safety procedures.
  • Delegate tasks and monitor work progress to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Address any operational issues or conflicts that arise among team members.
  • Provide input on staffing needs and performance evaluations of team members.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance productivity.
