About The Position

The Shipping Forklift Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently operating forklifts to load, move, and ship lumber products. This role supports shipping, production flow, and overall operational efficiency while complying with all company safety policies and procedures. The Shipping Forklift Driver works closely with supervisors, co-workers, truck drivers, and dispatchers to ensure accurate shipments, safe loading practices, and timely deliveries. Why Join Our Team? Requirements

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing or sawmill processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
  • Willingness to work overtime and fill in on off shifts as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts safely and in accordance with company policies and safety regulations.
  • Verify correct tallies and ensure accurate shipment counts.
  • Complete and maintain all required shipping paperwork.
  • Organize the lumber shed and related areas; ship oldest stock first (FIFO).
  • Inspect materials to ensure damaged or improperly packaged stock is not shipped.
  • Stack and store materials safely; do not stack unsafe loads.
  • Assist other forklift drivers as needed to support production flow.
  • Learn and apply lumber calculations by volume and weight; accurately communicate figures in writing.
  • Communicate with truck drivers to maximize load weight within legal limits.
  • Follow supervisor instructions regarding product destinations and due dates.
  • Coordinate with trucking dispatchers to schedule trucks.
  • Work closely with shipping and invoicing personnel on truck scheduling and shipment documentation.
  • Keep loading and work areas clean and free of debris, blocks, and dunnage.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of dunnage for truck loading.
  • Assist with flatcar loading by gathering materials, banding, nailing dunnage, securing side rails, cutting steel banding, and refilling banding equipment.
  • Secure and lock all gates at the end of each shift.
  • Provide assistance to the packaging department when needed.
  • Support other departments as requested.
  • Report accidents, machinery defects, and safety hazards immediately to the supervisor.
  • Perform cleanup and minor maintenance during downtime.
  • Promote teamwork, safety, and efficient production practices at all times.
