About The Position

As a Shipping Associate at Steel Technologies, your day-to-day responsibilities will include verifying and maintaining records on all outgoing shipments. We can guarantee your role will require multitasking, organization and time-management skills. You'll be responsible for helping Steel Technologies succeed by preparing items for shipment to our customers and ensuring their expectations are met. Essentially, you play a big part in getting the finished material into the right hands at the right time.

Requirements

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient math skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Ability to correctly retrieve and input data in computer using Excel and CMMS System
  • Ability to successfully troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment/machinery
  • Strong mechanical industrial knowledge and basic electrical knowledge
  • Ability to operate motor control systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatics, hoists, fire protection and mechanical bearing systems
  • Ability to comply with safety rules and requirements
  • Experience operating metal working tools such as grinder, band saw, drill press, welding equipment, etc.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish/English is preferred
  • Mechatronics certificate is strongly desired but not required

Responsibilities

  • Plan loads based upon customer due date to ensure on-time delivery and maximize use of trucks
  • Direct forklift operators to arrange loads for shipment
  • Verify shipments for accuracy
  • Coordinate Customs paperwork with Customs Brokers
  • Prepare packing lists, mill certified test reports, and bills of lading for loads
  • Establish and maintain relationships with long haul carriers
  • Provide freight rate quotes to sales
  • Locate and schedule long haul carriers for inbound and outbound shipments
  • Manage local carriers
  • Expedite shipments as needed
  • Maintain good housekeeping and safety standards in finished goods warehouse
  • Communicate with sales and plant production management to advise of delivery date or make production changes
  • Communicate with customers regarding deliveries
  • Learn receiving functions to act as back-up for receiving coordinator
  • Assist in inventory management functions
