About The Position

The operator is responsible for storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace. Rotates stock so oldest materials are used first. Notes and reports any damaged cartons, crates or containers. Records items added or removed from inventory. Prepares products for shipment by retrieving the designated product and ensuring it is properly loaded and sealed correctly. Stores product by using an industrial forklift and uses a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory. Working from written or verbal instructions by operating a forklift to pick up, move, load and unload product on, or from trailers while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

  • Ability to climb on and off of the forklift
  • Ability to back fork-lift up safely which requires turning neck and body in the opposite direction
  • Ability to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures both hot and cold, wet, dry, dusty environment
  • Ability to sit and walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily
  • Knowledge of Julian calendar
  • Knowledge of FIFO practices
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Knowledge of military time, RFGEN and JDE
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Ability to obtain and maintain company issued forklift license
  • Ability to read, write and understand English

  • Preferred experience in shipping and receiving
  • Preferred experience working with large moving equipment
  • Shipping and receiving knowledge preferred

Responsibilities

  • Storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace
  • Rotating stock so oldest materials are used first
  • Noting and reporting any damaged cartons, crates or containers
  • Recording items added or removed from inventory
  • Preparing products for shipment by retrieving the designated product and ensuring it is properly loaded and sealed correctly
  • Storing product by using an industrial forklift and a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory
  • Operating a forklift to pick up, move, load and unload product on, or from trailers while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines
  • Performing minor service of equipment and completing written daily safety inspections
  • Identifying and reporting noted problems to supervisor for further inspection and repair
  • Changing batteries or fuel bottles, refueling forklift or troubleshooting repairs as needed
  • Maintaining the work area, dock and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
  • Adhering to storage design principles, and recommending improvement
  • Creating product labels for inventory purposes
  • Reading and understanding lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules
  • Completing various reports daily and entering the required information into the computer program efficiently and timely
  • Using basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air, and water hoses
  • Consolidating partial pallets as directed by productions supervisor
  • Maneuvering forklift in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone for other drivers and team members
  • Participating as a member of the Team in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies
  • Coordinating work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members
  • Attending appropriate team meetings
  • Fostering strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
  • Accepting responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization
  • Maintaining familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies)
  • Understanding the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas
  • Performing other duties as necessary in support of business objectives
