POSITION SUMMARY Work closely with the Shipfitter Superintendent to provide support in the overall management of the Shipfitting Department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years’ previous shipyard experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Three to five years’ supervisory experience desired.
  • Must be able to manage a crew of individuals to get the job done efficiently, effectively, and safely.
  • Requires knowledge of ship terminology, safety, OSHA, and ABS regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms or plans.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to use transits and levels.
  • Be able to fit pipe and handrails.
  • Be able to fit an I-Beam.
  • Be able to block a module or boat.
  • Be able to erect modules and get them square and level.
  • Also, have the ability to weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
  • Integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety conscious, and multi-tasking.
  • Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
  • The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • The employee must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstand extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.

Responsibilities

  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends and holidays.
  • Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations and policies while performing duties.
  • Assist Superintendent in resolving issues with regard to day to day operations.
  • Assist Superintendent in meeting production schedule, maintaining resources and training needs within the Dept.
  • Provide technical assistance and oversee the workforce in the Shipfitting Dept.
  • Inspect installations, such as decks and engine foundations, for conformance with specifications.
  • Monitor your work performances and productivity.
  • Manage employees and plan ahead to have their crew work safe.
  • Lay out parts, bulkheads, and frames.
  • Lofting parts from a table of offsets.
  • Flag cranes, figure weights, and know how to rig all types of lifts.
  • Performa other duties as assigned.
