This requisition is for an entry level position. GENERAL FUNCTION: The shipfitter is responsible for the surface preparation of structural metal components and the lay out and fabrication of metal structural parts within the hull of a vessel for riveting and welding. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities: Working from blueprints or templates, lays out position of parts on metal using a scribe and hand tools. Locates and marks reference lines. Positions parts in hull of vessel with assistance from a Tacker or Helper. Aligns parts in relation to each other using jacks, come-a-longs, turnbuckles, clips, wedges and mauls. Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding or riveting. May tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding. May bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, utilizing the above-mentioned equipment.
