Leidos is seeking a Shipboard Installer Tech I to join their Defense Group in Chesapeake, VA. This role is crucial for supporting the ILC mission, which involves the maintenance, modernization, and installation of ASW sonar systems for customers. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and less than 1 year of direct field installation experience.
  • Experience performing cable continuity and megger testing with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with cable cutting, end preparation, and installation in accordance with installation drawings.
  • Hands-on experience installing a variety of cable and cableway systems in field environments.
  • Ability to plan cable runs and support installation activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical installation and red-line drawings.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Secret clearance or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to support 75% travel

  • Fiber optic cable handler certification to 8477552A.
  • Fiber optic connector qualification.
  • Copper connector qualification (MIL-STD).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid passport.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • VSRA.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct MCT/MCP testing, including opening, closing, documenting, and testing, without supervision; assume full accountability for these tasks.
  • Perform cable testing, including cable continuity and megger testing, as required by the job, without supervision.
  • Perform cable cutting, including proper cable cutting and end preparation methods, without supervision, based on specifications outlined in installation drawings.
  • Install all types of cable and cableway systems required by the job, without supervision.
  • Apply planning acumen and system/installation knowledge to plan cable runs and other installation tasks.
  • Demonstrate thorough system and installation knowledge, including the ability to read and interpret red-line drawings associated with electrical systems.
  • Conduct and enforce WAF, TUMS, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Observe and adhere to all safety regulations and procedures applicable to installation work.
  • Mentor team members on safety and ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and procedures in accordance with the SOW (Statement of Work), NAVSEA Standard Items, ESH Plans and Procedures, and requirements of the local shipyard or Navy facility.
