About The Position

Sayres Defense is seeking a Ship Superintendent to provide waterfront production and quality oversight in support of the Program Manager's Representative (PMR) at Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), Gulf Coast. This role serves as the primary deck plate point of contact and ship advocate throughout new construction, modification, maintenance, repair,trials, DD-250 delivery, and guarantee period. The Ship Superintendent ensures schedule adherence, production progress accuracy, contract compliance, and timely resolution of technical and contractual issues impacting major milestones.

Requirements

  • Broad knowledge of U.S. Navy shipbuilding methods, production control, and waterfront operations
  • Experience with hull, mechanical & electrical (HM&E) systems, marine machinery, piping, electrical and electronic systems
  • Knowledge of Navy/DoD shipbuilding regulations, contracts, and specifications
  • Experience with production scheduling, cost analysis, contractnegotiation, and defense contract administration
  • Ability to develop and negotiate technical work scopes for waterfront changes
  • Strong analytical ability to assess schedule and cost impacts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across Government and contractor stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Active Secret clearance

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site waterfront oversight of ship construction from fabrication through delivery and sail-away
  • Monitor contractor production progress against Integrated Master Schedules (IMS)
  • Validate physical progress and support Government position for progress payments
  • Manage waterfront changes (WFCs), ECPs, RFVs, and contract modifications
  • Support compartment inspections, launch, builder's trials, mock INSURV, acceptance trials, transits, and dry dockings
  • Coordinate ship/crew integration activities and milestone readiness validation
  • Monitor contractor quality programs and ensure closure of DD-250 liens and deficiencies
  • Track schedule impacts, delay claims, and contract performance risks
  • Maintain continuous communication with NAVSEA, SUPSHIP, ABS, Ship's Force, and contractor leadership
  • Provide weekly/quarterly production status reports and impact assessments
  • Maintain corporate memory and documentation of waterfront events
