Responsible for the protection and physical security of the property, materials and equipment aboard the assigned scientific research vessel. Conduct hourly patrols to assigned areas: Remaining observant for signs of fire or ship flooding/water damage Patrol the interior and exterior of your assigned scientific vessel and remain alert for any equipment malfunctions, high water levels, excessive strain on mooring lines, unauthorized persons, display lighting, unsecured doors/hatches, and other safety/security factors of the scientific vessel. The guard may be required to use a ship provided electronic device to physically verify access to ship areas (training provided) Follow the designated patrol routes Check gauges/dials on generators, pumps, refrigerator/freezers, compressors or any other specified machinery (training provided) and notified appropriate parties immediately if temperature/readings are outside specified limits or should an incident occur. Maintain a shift activity log Prevent unauthorized personnel from boarding the vessel and issue GOV keys to authorized personnel Patrol the pier and monitor safety concerns Advise all private vessels to stay clear of the scientific facility/ship Record authorized and unauthorized visitors in the ships logbook Raise and lower the scientific vessels flags at appropriate times. Operate vessels security lights at designated times. Maintain confidentiality of operations while monitoring phones. Other duties as assigned
