About The Position

Mars Petcare is seeking a Shift Technician - Maintenance to join its pet food business at a Fort Smith, AR, manufacturing plant. The company focuses on delivering precise, effective nutrition for cats and dogs. Shift technicians are multi-crafted (mechanical/electrical) front-line technicians responsible for troubleshooting and repairing breakdown issues on facility production equipment. They collaborate with equipment operators, operations, and maintenance leads to address issues safely and efficiently, adhering to site quality and GMP standards. Once troubleshooting is complete, the Shift Technician will shift focus to preventive maintenance activities as assigned by the planner/scheduler through planned work orders. Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Associates degree or equivalent in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering
  • Technical training from an accredited school and/or military experience in related fields
  • Be able to work 12-hour shift schedule
  • Be able to work nights
  • Be able to lift 50lbs
  • 5+ years’ experience maintaining mechanical systems on complex process and/or high-speed production equipment
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, testing, and repairing instrumentation devices
  • Welding
  • Machining
  • Mechanical maintenance
  • Electrical/Electronics-install and repair (some explosion proof environments)
  • Single and 3-phase powered equipment (troubleshoot, test, and repair)
  • AC and DC control systems (troubleshoot, test, and repair)
  • AC variable speed and servo drives (troubleshoot, replace, program)
  • Operate electronic test equipment (multi-meter, meg-ohm meter, amp probe)

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to company safety and quality processes and rules
  • Provide technical skills required to systematically repair, adjust and maintain processing, filling, conveying, and packaging machinery as assigned using established maintenance reliability practices, consistent observation, repair, and follow-up of operational effectiveness
  • Must be able to work with others in a team atmosphere
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams, working on new project activities and continuous training
