Shift Supervisor Summary: The Shift Supervisor is responsible for optimizing productivity and supervising the activities of personnel in a union shop to ensure safe and effective operations. Job Core Responsibilities: Assist in developing/updating all safety policies and practices as well as enforcement of compliance by all employees. Enforce all company policies and procedures including administration of any applicable discipline. Assure that each unit is operating within recommended parameters. Communicate with maintenance personnel regarding necessary repairs and initialize schedule changes to minimize downtime. Make appropriate quality decisions and dispositions to keep material flow moving and minimum rework costs. Spot check finished product off each unit for proper quality requirements as well as received product. Solicit new ideas/suggestions from employees to increase production and improve quality and safety. Perform necessary sampling, testing and calibrations as required and enter results into BAI system. Fill vacancies per contract on all units. Complete all accident and incident investigations accurately and efficiently. Review and recommend changes, if applicable, to Standard Operating Procedures. Review, edit and approve time keeping system for hourly employees. This position is also responsible for the shipping department on off shifts.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of steel processing, slitting, coating, roll-forming.
  • Possess ability to coach and mentor workers for maximum effectiveness.
  • Strong delegation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA/safety programs and regulations.
  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years production supervision in steel manufacturing environment.
