About The Position

The Residential Shift Supervisor - TIP supports the Program Supervisor in the daily operations of the program and plays an integral role in the supervision and development of Youth Development Professionals (YDPs). In the absence of the Program Supervisor, the Shift Supervisor assumes administrative and supervisory responsibilities to ensure uninterrupted program operations. This role provides direct support, guidance, and decision-making in real-time, addressing issues and concerns as they arise to maintain the safety, structure, and quality of care for both youth and staff. In addition to operational oversight, the Shift Supervisor actively engages with youth in developing essential life skills, vocational readiness, and community integration. By modeling positive behaviors, coaching staff in youth engagement, and ensuring program routines are centered on preparing youth for independence, the Shift Supervisor contributes to an environment that empowers youth to build independence, responsibility, and self-advocacy.

  • High School Diploma or GED, College in human services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents/young adults and staff, ideally in residential or foster care.
  • Knowledge of life skills coaching, transition planning, and/or TIP model strongly preferred.
  • Ability to build positive, respectful, and empowering relationships with youth.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license required; ability to transport youth as needed.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Able to provide crisis intervention including physical restraints. Restraints may include resistive force, bending, squatting, kneeling, lying down, and holding youth in order to maintain safety.
  • Ability to sit, squat, crouch and stand for elongated periods of time
  • Ability to lift arms over head in upward reaching motion
  • Ability to walk up and downstairs up to several times per day.

Nice To Haves

  • College in human services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of life skills coaching, transition planning, and/or TIP model strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold, support, enforce, and monitor all OCFS and Agency policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of, and adherence to, the residential models of care (Boys Town, PEM, Casey’s Life skills and TCI) through daily interactions with youth and through supervision, coaching, and mentoring of staff.
  • Support youth in building independence skills such as financial literacy, vocational readiness, education planning, daily living skills, and community engagement.
  • Model and reinforce age-appropriate decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills with youth.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor in scheduling YDPs, including reviewing time-off requests, managing shift coverage, and addressing staff vacancies.
  • Provide emergency and planned shift coverage as needed for Youth Development-TIP staff and supervisors who are absent due to vacation, holidays, illness, staff shortage, or other circumstances.
  • Lead program routines in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring consistency with posted schedules and expectations while integrating life-skill building opportunities for youth.
  • Ensure all Critical Incident and Incident Report notifications are completed and communicated promptly (e.g., to families, counties, Management Team, On-Call Risk Evaluator, On-Call Medical, Maintenance, Directors, etc.).
  • Oversee programmatic tasks (incident management, notifications, shift logs, etc.) and youth-related responsibilities (On-Call support, Resident Daily Evaluations, Point Cards, etc.), both routine and unforeseen.
  • Ensure the program facility is safe, secure, and well-maintained, including aesthetics, locked doors/windows, and readiness for daily operations.
  • Monitor all activity in Paycom relevant to the position (scheduling, time reporting, compliance, etc.).
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to provide leadership coverage and support during off-hours.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor
