Position Summary: The Shift Supervisor has all the skills of a Tier 1 Diesel Technician, and is primarily responsible for safe execution of shift duties and responsibilities in the Marine Engineering department at NYC Ferry, located at Brooklyn Navy Yard. This person will have marine mechanical and electrical experience, and will ensure that our fleet of vessels is properly maintained.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card), and/or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification, and/or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, quickly changing environment.
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Marine mechanical and electrical experience are highly desired.
  • Proven track record running a maintenance shift is highly desired.
  • Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Accept tasks from the Port Engineer and plan/implement execution.
  • Successfully and safely perform all maintenance onboard vessels up to, and including, motor overhauls, AC/DC electrical troubleshooting, and hydraulic steering system work.
  • Ensure all aspects of safety during task execution.
  • Issue company power tools to technicians to accomplish designated tasks. Ensure tools are returned before the end of the shift.
  • Ensure company warranty procedures are followed.
  • Ensure all shift paperwork is correctly completed and submitted.
  • Communicate Important vessel information to other supervisors and the chain of command.
  • Use of approved Hazmat required for Paints, Solvents & Cleaning Agents.
  • Perform cleaning and custodial tasks of the vessels and property, including maintenance and construction tasks as assigned and minor engineering repairs and rounds as directed.
  • Seek the highest levels of quality and professionalism.
  • Work to achieve the highest levels of performance and productivity.
  • Assist Port Engineer in ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Assist Port Engineer in ensuring vessel is always in an inspection-ready condition.
  • Assist with filling water, bunkering fuel, connecting, and disconnecting shore power as directed.
  • Accurately complete all documentation.
  • Know and understand internal policy and external regulatory requirements that relate to your position and department.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.
