About The Position

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing various specialized assignments and security systems within a 90-bed men’s homeless shelter. The Shift Supervisor reports to the Security Manager.

Requirements

  • An Associate's Degree in social services, criminology, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
  • A valid New York State Security Guard License, Fire Guard License, and certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) are required.
  • Must possess a general knowledge of security systems, video surveillance, and fire detection/alarm notification systems.
  • The Shift Supervisor must own their own vehicle and have knowledge of the public transportation system. A home phone number is mandatory.
  • Flexibility with days and hours of availability is essential.
  • Familiarity with shelter protocols and knowledge of CARES and DHS is required.

Responsibilities

  • Train new security and residential aide employees in all aspects of the facility.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Security Services Officers (SSOs), residential aides, drivers, and kitchen staff during assigned shifts.
  • Monitor access control and ensure the effective use of the magnetometer and x-ray machine.
  • Respond to incidents using crisis management techniques to ensure the safety of staff and clients.
  • Conduct rounds throughout the facility and external premises to prevent, detect, deter, and report hazardous situations, trespassers, and illegal activities.
  • Respond in person to emergencies throughout the building, providing guidance and support to line staff and subordinates.
  • Complete monthly security reports.
  • Create incident reports and disseminate them as appropriate.
  • Document incidents in the CARES system and comply with other Westhab protocols.
  • Facilitate processes when Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the New York Police Department (NYPD) are on-site.
  • Conduct daily inspections of security and fire safety systems.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities of a Client Care Monitor during their absence.
  • Adjust staff schedules in response to sick calls and unexpected staff shortages.
  • Maintain the safety and security of clients and staff.
  • Provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Assist the Security Manager in preparing for and executing fire drills.
  • Review logbook entries, incident reports, and critical administrative responsibilities during assigned shifts, checking for errors and ensuring accuracy.
  • Attend and conduct various meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Check the inventory of all assigned equipment daily and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned.
