The Shift Manager Operations at Cleveland-Cliffs is responsible for overseeing the operations at the Tilden Mine site, ensuring safe work practices, and managing the work of Plant Concentrator Operators. This role involves planning, prioritizing, and directing work assignments, monitoring quality, and documenting performance metrics to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to safety standards.

  • Demonstrate safe work practices and lead work safely.
  • Gather information from previous supervisor(s) and crew to create a shift plan.
  • Plan and prioritize work assignments from the weekly work order packet on a daily basis.
  • Perform shift toolbox meetings, communicating shift plans, task assignments, and special tasks required.
  • Monitor and inspect the quality of completed work assignments.
  • Complete shift inspections of crew member areas, ensuring quality and completeness of work assignments.
  • Write and close out work orders for crew, ensuring job hours are accurately reflected to tasks assigned.
  • Ensure start and stop times are accurately reflected for payroll.
  • Document shift performance for crew, work achieved, and key process parameters for handover to other operating personnel.
  • Understand significant deviations from the department's operating plan and implement sustainable solutions to deviations.
  • Elevate deviations to the manager that cannot be corrected at the supervisor level.
  • Collaborate with other supervisors to minimize variation between shifts and implement best practices.
  • Administer corporate, site, and departmental policies consistently and impartially.
  • Make recommendations on quality improvement initiatives and monitor completion of process improvement work.
  • Coordinate plans, projects, and programs to achieve desired performance results in safety, quality, production, cost, and environmental performance.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment, preferably in steel, hydrocarbon, or mining.
  • Experience overseeing, leading, and coaching people.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and manage multiple/changing priorities effectively.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); Ellipse preferred.
  • Reasonable mechanical aptitude.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and constructively influence personnel in team processes.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Mobility required; must handle stairs and work on feet for long periods.
  • Ability to work in a plant environment with exposure to noise, dust, dirt, vibrations, and extreme climate changes.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Willingness to work shift work.
  • Previous work experience in steel, hydrocarbon, or mining environment preferred.
