The Shift Manager is responsible for supporting Department Director(s) and Operations Manager(s) in day-to-day oversight of department services and successfully managing all operational activities and staff performance, as directed. This position is responsible for implementing established departmental programs and procedures that guide and support the provision of services in all designated areas within the THOMAS JEFFERSON UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. The Shift Manager plans, organizes, and evaluates department activities twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, and provides feedback to Department Director(s) and Operations Manager(s) on department strategic goals and processes to enhance/improve operations. This position works collaboratively with Hospital Managers to ensure optimal throughput. The Shift Manager position identifies opportunities to improve department processes and assists the Department Director(s) and Operations Managers in correcting factors contributing to problematic outcomes. The Shift Manager works collaboratively with all levels of hospital leadership teams; ensures productivity improvement objectives are met; cultivates service/product quality and customer and patient satisfaction; and implements effective cost-reduction plans and processes that support hospital goals, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures. The Shift Manager ensures the Director(s) and Operations Managers are kept abreast of issues or problems impacting program efficiency and effectiveness. This position develops and trains talent to ensure program quality, sustainability, long-term growth, and development; and leads by exemplifying the Mission, Vision, and Values of THOMAS JEFFERSON UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. Working under the leadership of the Department Director(s) and Operation Managers, manages the day-to-day shift operations of the EVS and Patient Transportation discharge throughput. Ensures program service support objectives are met. Provides a work environment that fosters positive energy, creativity, and teamwork among staff across all assigned areas; and provides operational and technical support to the support services staff in support of the overall Support Services program management. Coordinates within assigned Hospital unit(s) to ensure: Monitors the EVS and Patient Transport Command Center to ensure that bed cleans and patient transports are assigned according to bed prioritization needs. In real time, expedite and prioritize administrative issues to remove barriers to discharge and address care delays. Maintain patient throughput and continually evaluate bed placement progress according to the institution's Patient Flow Plan. Orient, coach, evaluate, and schedule Patient Flow Coordinators. Monitors, reviews, and approves Patient Flow Coordinator staff timekeeping and related reports in accordance with applicable Thomas Jefferson University Hospital policies and procedures. Provide leadership for Patient Flow Coordinators and work with Support Services and C.O.R.E. colleagues to address patient flow issues. Assist Support Services and C.O.R.E. Leadership in defining administrative triggers and feedback mechanisms to inform operational team members, physician leaders, and the administrative team to mitigate over-capacity situations. Assist Support Services and C.O.R.E. Leadership in developing strategies to manage a surge in patient volumes. Identify and promptly communicate quality and risk issues to the appropriate staff/departments. Participates in projects, data collection, and other activities designed to enhance EVS and Patient Transport discharge.
