About The Position

The Shift Lead is responsible for assisting the shift supervisor in leading a team of production staff to produce quality products, safely and efficiently, in a 24/7/365 environment. At times, the Shift Lead may be required to run the shift in the supervisor's absence. The company is a diversified North American wood products company producing southern yellow pine lumber, OSB, and wood chips across the Southern US and Western Canada. They are the largest lumber producer in North America and operate in a culture that values safety first and rewards hard work.

Requirements

  • Three to five years' experience in a lead capacity within wood products manufacturing or similar industry.
  • Experienced working in a 24/7/365, continuous production environment.
  • Solid understanding of industrial manufacturing environments, specifically safety, quality, and production.
  • Proactive and enthusiastic with demonstrated collaborative leadership skills.
  • Ability to train and maintain strong teams through exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to initiate and foster cooperation within and between departments.
  • Ability to deescalate tense/stressful situations while always treating members with respect and dignity.
  • Proficiency in the use of various computer systems and applications (Microsoft Office, CMMS).
  • Ability to pick up on new ideas, listen to instructions, and understand procedures effectively.
  • Be reliable and possess consistent and predictable attendance behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Promote, contribute to, and lead a safe working environment and ensure compliance with all Standard Safety Operating Procedures.
  • Contribute to and lead a culture of quality, driving continuous improvement by regularly identifying and addressing opportunities.
  • Maintain production by communicating expectations, monitoring processes, observing control points and equipment, establishing priorities, and reporting results to the shift supervisor.
  • Work closely with facility maintenance and engineering personnel to identify potential problems, streamline processes, and implement improvement suggestions and activities.
  • Manage teams by delegating daily tasks and assist in the development of programs.
  • Assist in the training of team members.
  • Ability to operate multiple machine centers and fill in on shift when needed.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule and provide shift coverage when needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership.
