About The Position

The Quality Shift Leader has general supervisory responsibility for a medium group of employees engaged in the quality inspection of production products, including first-line supervisory subordinates. Work involves the coordination of a number of inspection functions involving the ability to make decisions within the limits of general practices and policies. The Quality Shift Leader needs to maintain awareness of quality standards, drive meeting of department quality goals, and leverage resources to solve quality issues for the plant. This position will require the selected candidate to work rotating shifts and over-time.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working in quality or a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ of supervisory experience.
  • Managerial courage to provide direct, honest, constructive feedback to Plant Staffs / Executive Leadership in a considerate and professional manner.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and over-time.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of scheduling, manufacturing processes, quality control standards, and other management systems.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output.
  • Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to coach, teach and audit elements of GM Quality Manual and GMS BIQ Principle and Elements.
  • Significant experience with quality systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Group Leader experience.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of vehicle/propulsion Manufacturing and the elements of the GM Quality System / GMS BIQ.
  • Union environment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all Quality Departmental functions.
  • Oversee plant quality performance through daily and weekly quality meetings, drive production departmental follow-up on DRR, GCA and EFTQ.
  • Implements and maintains BIQ calibration statements and other applicable GMS principal statements.
  • Interfaces with production department leaders on systemic quality problems and ensures containments are executed effectively.
  • Coach, teach, counsel and mentor Group Leaders.
  • Keeps management informed of key developments.
  • Complies with terms of local and national labor agreements.
  • Manage medium group of employees in high paced manufacturing environment.
  • Create a positive engaged work environment that drives continuous improvement.
  • Make decisions independently with limited supervision.
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping.
  • Drive effective reaction to defects using alarm and escalation.
  • Oversee overall quality performance of the shift, including but not limited to containments, shipping holds, GCA, DRR and EFTQ.
