About the position

The Shift Leader at Sunny Glen Children's Home is responsible for supervising and directing the care of unaccompanied children in a shelter environment. This role involves ensuring effective communication among staff, managing daily intakes and discharges, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment for the children. The Shift Leader also mentors new employees and oversees the daily operations of the shift, ensuring compliance with program policies and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Log information accurately and efficiently regarding the children in care.
  • Supervise children within line of sight and hearing.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and report any concerns immediately.
  • Direct activities during busy times such as showers and recreation.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and assign job duties fairly.
  • Meet deadlines under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain an approachable demeanor for children and staff.
  • Intervene in situations involving children to de-escalate issues and document them.
  • Conduct and mentor staff during the intake process.
  • Gather necessary documentation for unaccompanied children in care.
  • Assist during fire drills and ensure accurate headcounts during emergencies.
  • Discharge children from the system in a timely manner and communicate with leadership about discharges and reunifications.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Minimum GED or High School Diploma required.
  • At least 6 months of experience as a shift lead in a UC program or 1+ years providing direct care to unaccompanied children.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents and regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence effectively.
  • Mathematical skills to work with statistical concepts and apply them practically.
  • Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Electronic Case Management software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Paycom.
