Requirements

  • Previous experience in a café or restaurant setting is preferred, but not required.
  • A passion for working with the public in a customer-facing capacity.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and under pressure.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Flexibility to attend quarterly team meetings or trainings that may occasionally be scheduled outside of regular working hours.
  • We require all employees to maintain a minimum of 3 shifts per week.
  • Full-time employees must maintain an average of 30 hours per week to maintain full-time status.
  • Able to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance.
  • Move quickly and efficiently from one area of the café to another.
  • Ability to hear and communicate effectively in English.
  • Good vision, including the ability to see details at close range.
  • Flexibility to bend and squat as necessary to perform cleaning and stocking tasks.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of operating a cash register or tablet device to enter customer orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to speak clearly and project voice to effectively communicate with customers and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Upholds service standards and leads by example.
  • Provides effective leadership during shifts, ensuring consistent excellence in cafe operations.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service, serving as a role model for hospitality.
  • Manages customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints professionally, adhering to Alfred Hospitality standards.
  • Possesses deep knowledge of cafe offerings (beverages, food, services) and ensures staff does as well.
  • Fosters a team-oriented environment by recognizing employee accomplishments.
  • Assists with new employee training (feedback, reinforcement) and provides detailed reports to management.
  • Develops baristas' coffee/tea knowledge (flavors, blends, origins).
  • Builds rapport with employees through understanding their motivations, needs, and concerns.
  • Assists management in assessing staffing needs (sending staff home/calling for reinforcements).
  • Delegates duties, assigning tasks and ensuring timely completion.
  • Enforces disciplinary measures through the Disciplinary Flowchart (verbal/written warnings).
  • Maintains a supportive and accessible work environment for employees and guests.
  • Demonstrates excellent and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Anticipates customer and cafe needs by observing the environment and customer cues.
  • Optimizes operational workflow through staff delegation (barista, register, etc.).
  • Supports inventory management and order placement.
  • Ensures proper staff timekeeping (clocking in/out, breaks).
  • Manages cash drawer and tip procedures for opening/closing shifts.
  • Operates the POS register system for transactions.
  • Oversees food and beverage preparation adherence to Alfred standards (quality, consistency, timeliness).
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and stocked cafe environment (setup/breakdown).
  • Conducts daily refrigerator temperature checks to comply with company and health standards.
  • Enforces proper safety and sanitation procedures (timely HACCP completion).
  • Assists with receiving and handling product deliveries.
  • Completes AM/PM Daily Cafe Log and utilizes communication channels (Slack, email).
  • Documents employee/customer injuries in the cafe using Incident Reports, informing management.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in Company’s employee handbook.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned to meet company goals.
