About The Position

Job Summary: Definition of Shared Governance: Shared governance is a professional structural model, founded on the cornerstone principles of partnership, equity, accountability, and ownership that form a culturally sensitive and empowering framework, enabling sustainable and accountability-based decisions to support an interdisciplinary design for excellent patient care. Standards of Care Assessment Medical-surgical nurses collect client health data. Diagnosis Medical-surgical nurses analyze the assessment data in determining diagnosis. Outcome Identification Medical-surgical nurses identify expected outcomes unique to the client. Planning Medical-surgical nurses develop a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. Implementation Medical-surgical nurses implement the interventions identified in the plan of care. Evaluation Medical-surgical nurses evaluate the client's progress toward attainment of outcomes. Essential Job Duties: Performance Standards Quality Care The Medical-surgical nurse systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Performance Appraisal Medical-surgical nurses evaluate their own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards, statutes, and regulations. Education Medical-surgical nurses acquire and maintain current knowledge in nursing practice.  Medical-surgical nurses pursue knowledge to enhance nursing expertise and advance the profession. Collegiality Medical-surgical nurses interact with, and contribute to, the professional development of peers and other health care providers as colleagues. Ethics Medical-surgical nurses deliver care in a nonjudgmental, nondiscriminatory, sensitive, and culturally competent manner. Collaboration Medical-surgical nurses collaborate with the client, family members, significant others, and health care providers in providing care. Research Medical-surgical nurses use research findings in practice. Resource Utilization Medical-surgical nurses consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost planning for the delivery of client care. Communication Medical-surgical nurses communicate effectively with clients, families, and other health care professionals. Leadership Medical-surgical nurses use leadership skills to enhance client outcomes and foster a healthy work environment within the practice setting and profession. Secondary Job Duties That May be Reassigned: 1. Provides on-site supervision of nursing and patient care staff. 2. Ability to function in charge nurse role 3. Performs patient rounding at the discretion of the manager. 4. Assists staff with problem-solving, education, and equipment training on an as needed basis. 5. Evaluates staffing plans with the charge nurse. 6. Identifies operational issues, staff performance problems and/or educational deficits on the designated shit and propose corrective action plans for resolution. 7. Assists with employee scheduling of weekly time and educational offerings.
