About The Position

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Sheriff's Correctional Officer II. This role is crucial in maintaining the safety and security of the correctional facilities while providing humane care to inmates. The Sheriff's Office is committed to exceptional public service and modern law enforcement practices, emphasizing leadership and employee development. Correctional Officers will be assigned to either the South Lake Tahoe or Placerville facilities and may have opportunities to work in specialized units such as Classification and Gangs, Inmate Services, and armed Transportation Officers. As a Sheriff's Correctional Officer, you will be responsible for processing incoming inmates and assisting with their release from custody. You will maintain safety and security within the facility, ensuring compliance with daily Title 15 mandates. This includes supervising inmate activities such as exercise, recreation, and visiting privileges. In emergency situations, you will be expected to respond promptly, providing medical assistance when necessary and evaluating situations to take appropriate actions. Daily responsibilities also include monitoring inmate activities, documenting incidents, and conducting searches for contraband and weapons. You will be trained to handcuff, subdue, and restrain individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others, utilizing appropriate restraining devices. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background in correctional operations, with a focus on safety, security, and humane treatment of inmates. This recruitment is specifically for lateral Correctional Officers, and candidates must meet specific qualifications, including completion of the BSCC Jail Operations Training Academy and the PC 832 Arrest training. Candidates should have at least one year of experience equivalent to the County's class of Sheriff's Correctional Officer I. The Sheriff's Personnel Unit will assess applications to ensure candidates meet the minimum qualifications, and successful applicants will undergo a thorough background investigation prior to a conditional job offer.
