About The Position

The Sheriff's Communication and Engagement Specialist is a key role within the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating communication and engagement strategies. This position collaborates closely with the Sheriff and Administration to enhance public information efforts and community engagement, utilizing strong project management and communication skills to connect with diverse audiences.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science, or in a closely related field
• OR An Associate Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science, or in a closely related field AND at least two years related experience
• Experience in writing, editing, blogging, and updating content
• Experience with photo and video editing
• Experience crafting and delivering newsletters, webinars, digital marketing materials, brochures, social media, articles, annual reports, advertorial messaging, or editorial communications
• Experience with content creations, especially as it pertains to digital content on social media channels

Responsibilities

• Development of Public Information Communications strategy for the Sheriff's Office
• Develop strategies, lead projects, and initiatives to increase public awareness, activities, resources, and accomplishments within the Sheriff's Office
• Responsible for curating, creating, scheduling, and posting content to all of the Sheriff's Office social media channels
• Ideate and create a variety of content formats including articles, video, presentations, social, print, etc.
• Develop content ideas to connect with our community based on seasonal priorities and trends
• Create and edit video and photo content
• Assist in developing presentations based on current trends for the County Sheriff
• Works with appropriate vendors in printing publications, online and print advertising, and contracted photography
• Serve as the first point of contact for the media inquiries and/or requests
• Manage media relations such as newspapers, radio, and television stations
• Knowledge and application of basic data practice laws and provide accurate information to the public as needed
• Compose and disseminate media releases
• Assist with Sheriff's Office recruitment efforts through social media and job fairs
• Coordinate public engagement events and displays such as Night to Unite and the Dakota County Fair booth
• Other duties as assigned
