About The Position

The Scientific Investigations Bureau of the Sheriff's Department of San Bernardino County is recruiting for Sheriff's Supervising Crime Scene Specialists who supervise a unit of Sheriff's Crime Scene Specialists and provide administrative staff support. In addition, this class is expected to fully participate in crime scene investigations, as well as the review and approval of subordinate reports. Requirements

  • Four (4) years of journey-level experience with primary responsibility for major crime scene investigations (e.g., homicides) that include collecting, documenting, photographing evidence, and latent fingerprint processing for a law enforcement agency.
  • All qualifying experience must be obtained in the field.
  • Applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
  • Applicants must be available for all shifts; incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, or be on call for work, on weekends, holidays, and evenings, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
  • Incumbents must be able to climb up and down embankments, and hike short distances over rough terrain, while carrying up to 40 lbs; work in inclement (hot/cold/wet) weather; and be able to work while wearing an Air Purifying Respirator (APR).
  • Incumbents must pass a yearly medical exam to verify the ability to wear an APR.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience processing a wide range of evidence from major crime scenes, including trace evidence, blood spatter, biological materials, firearms, gun trajectory, impression evidence, bomb/arson scenes, entomological evidence, and other general types of forensic evidence.
  • Familiar with ANAB requirements.
  • Certification by the International Association for Identification is highly desirable. Include certificate number and expiration date on your application.
