About the position

Sheriff's Lieutenant, under general direction, plans, coordinates, assigns and directs the work of a specific function within a Division, the work of a Bureau, or other operational area of the Sacramento Sheriff's Office.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, assign, direct, monitor, and evaluate the work of both sworn and non-sworn staff.
  • Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
  • Investigate and resolve disciplinary issues.
  • Develop or assist in the development of, administer, monitor and interpret budgets and other financial documents.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with other departments, employees, community leaders, and the general public.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Analyze problems and develop and/or recommend effective solutions for issues encountered by the Division, Bureau and/or Department.
  • Prepare clear, concise, comprehensive reports and correspondence.
  • Train individuals on a variety of law enforcement and administrative issues.
  • Make effective presentations to subordinates, command staff, civic organizations, commissions, elected officials, and the general public.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time, paid experience in the class of Sheriff's Sergeant in Sacramento County service.
  • A Bachelor's Degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university may substitute for two of the required four years of experience.
  • Compliance with Government Code: Incumbents appointed to this class shall meet the minimum standards set forth in California Government Code, Section 1031.
  • Successful completion of a POST certified Management course is required within 12 months from the date of appointment.
  • A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, is required at the time of appointment.
