About The Position

The Deputy Sheriff Cadet / Deputy Sheriff position involves performing a wide range of entry-level professional law enforcement duties aimed at securing a safe environment for county citizens and protecting rights as established by federal, state, and local laws. This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or HSE (Uncertified).
  • Graduation from high school and New Mexico Police Academy, plus one (1) year of specialized training (Certified).
  • One (1) year paid professional employment as a patrol officer in a sheriff's department or police department (Certified).
  • No experience necessary (Uncertified).
  • Must possess a valid New Mexico State Driver's License.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must pass a fit for duty, psychological, and drug test prior to employment.

  • Ability to apply modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively process crime scenes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in the operation of motor vehicles at high speed and in dangerous situations.
  • Skill in the use of firearms.

Benefits
