A Sheriff Account Clerk II performs a variety of accounting and clerical work activities involving the Jail inmate commissary accounting system. Duties involve the performance of inmate account maintenance; inmate billing for room and board and accounts payable and receivable activities involving the use of an independent checking account requiring considerable independent judgment. A Sheriff Account Clerk II is distinguished from Account Clerks II by both the difficulty and amount of account-related tasks performed. An employee in this class prepares receipt and disbursement vouchers; posts to general and subsidiary accounts, makes standard journal entries of a more complex nature; distributes costs to various accounts and performs other related duties as assigned. The Sheriff Account Clerk II position is responsible for all aspects of the Inmate Trust Fund under Public Act 20 of 1943 (MCL 129.91). Employees in this class work under general supervision performing standardized operations and following established bookkeeping procedures. A Sheriff Account Clerk II has considerable responsibility for developing and initiating work details and is called upon to exercise independent judgment. Employees in this class may be responsible for providing general guidance and instruction on the daily departmental operations.
