About The Position

Serving nearly 385,000 visitors each year across a 103,000 sq. ft. central library, two branch libraries, and a bookmobile, the Library plays a vital role in fostering learning, creativity, and meaningful community connection throughout Laramie County. Shelvers keep the library running smoothly by shelving, organizing, and inspecting library items when returned so they're ready for the next patron. Shelvers participate in closing procedures, checking in materials, and working in the sort room as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 16-years old
- Demonstrated ability to read
- Demonstrated ability to file, or learn to file, alphabetically and numerically
- Accurate numerical and alphabetical filing skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to maintain a high volume and quantity of work.
- Ability to learn a variety of software programs including word processing and integrated library systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintains patron confidentiality in compliance with Wyoming state law.
- Provides directions or refers patrons to the appropriate staff as needed.
- Shelves library materials, straightens and reads shelves to maintain accurate order, and removes damaged or worn items from circulation.
- Shifts materials and requests signage updates as needed.
- Checks in items using the sort system and collaborates with team members to ensure sort room coverage.
- Troubleshoots computers and the sort system, reporting issues to IT Services and Facilities.
- Completes closing duties according to established procedures.
- Reports shelving issues to the appropriate staff or supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
