About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Shelter Support Staff at our SoDo location in Seattle, WA. This full-time role is essential in providing support and assistance to residents of the King County Shelter Program. The Shelter Support Staff will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all guests. This includes conducting client intakes, processing guest data, and performing security rounds to maintain the safety and integrity of the shelter. The position requires a compassionate approach to crisis intervention and the ability to de-escalate potentially negative interactions with clients. Daily supervision will be provided by the King County Shelter Program Manager or designated supervisors, ensuring that staff are supported in their roles. The Shelter Support Staff will engage with clients through various means, including responding to crisis calls, providing information and referrals to other social service agencies, and assisting residents in adhering to shelter rules and policies. Regular inspections of the facility will be conducted to identify any hazards or inappropriate behaviors, and staff will be expected to respond to emergencies as they arise, making independent decisions within established policy guidelines. This role also involves providing orientation and support to volunteers and new staff, ensuring that all team members are well-equipped to serve the shelter's residents effectively. In addition to direct client interaction, the Shelter Support Staff will maintain case records and required documentation, participate in staff meetings, and collaborate with other Salvation Army programs. The position also includes general cleaning duties to ensure the facility remains a safe and pleasant environment for all guests. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, with a minimum of six months of experience in public contact or customer service, preferably in a social service or shelter setting. A valid driver's license is preferred but not mandatory.
