About The Position

The Shelter Monitor position at Jean Darsie Place involves monitoring activities at the Tiny House Village and maintaining a safe environment for all residents. The role includes providing emergency coverage as needed and working closely with other Organizers, the on-site Case Manager, and the Special Projects Manager. The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) has a 30-year history of managing low-income housing and developing solutions to homelessness. LIHI is committed to anti-displacement, equitable development, and social racial justice, serving a diverse population including families, singles, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • One year maintenance, customer service and/or management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people with sensitivity to cultural, race, gender, mental health and class issues.
  • Experience working with low-income people.
  • Experience working within a Native Community.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must pass criminal background checks and drug screening test.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a safe, clean and peaceful environment in the Tiny House Village.
  • Assist clients/participants in completing move-in and move-out paperwork.
  • Monitor individuals entering and exiting the village and maintain logs.
  • Provide outreach and information to neighborhood residents and handle donations.
  • Provide an on-site presence in the village and enforce rules and guest policy.
  • Monitor activities, safety, security, and cleanliness in the village.
  • Perform light maintenance and janitorial duties of common areas.
  • Assist in setting up village meetings and assign duties to villagers.
  • Prepare vacant units including light maintenance and cleaning.
  • Maintain inventory of basic supplies and order supplies.
  • Respond to villagers' concerns and questions.
  • Provide information and feedback to Case Manager and Special Project Manager.
  • Respond to emergencies and perform grounds checks.
  • Be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.
