About The Position

Position Summary: The Shelter Monitor supports the safety, stability, and well-being of individuals and families residing in the Preble County Domestic Violence Shelter. This position involves direct client engagement, crisis intervention, operational support, and policy enforcement to maintain a trauma-informed, secure, and respectful environment. The Shelter Monitor also plays a vital role in hotline response, client intake, documentation, and collaboration with community resources. We are currently hiring for 2nd and 3rd shift positions. Please note that these roles require availability to work weekends, as weekend coverage is mandatory. Candidates should be flexible and able to meet scheduling needs to support operations during these shifts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in domestic violence support, crisis intervention, or a related human services field.
  • Strong understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and trauma-informed care.
  • Effective crisis management, de-escalation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in documentation and electronic record-keeping.
  • Ability to maintain calm and professionalism under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends, evenings, and on-call.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize crisis stabilization techniques to support client safety and emotional well-being.
  • Operate and respond to the Preble County Domestic Violence Hotline, providing immediate guidance, crisis intervention, and safety planning.
  • Assess, orient, and facilitate the entry of new shelter residents, ensuring clear communication of available services, shelter guidelines, and expectations.
  • Perform operational duties to ensure the smooth functioning of the shelter, including cleanliness, organization of supplies and donations, and facility safety monitoring.
  • Make appropriate referrals to external agencies or services to meet the individualized needs of clients.
  • Support and consistently enforce shelter policies to promote fairness, accountability, and security within the shelter.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and up-to-date client documentation using electronic record-keeping software in accordance with contract requirements and agency policies.
  • Respond promptly to client emergencies during working hours and while on-call, delivering support with professionalism and compassion.
  • Attend all required state training sessions, staff meetings, and individual development opportunities to enhance skills and service delivery.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and strict confidentiality with clients, staff, and records.
  • Deliver excellent client service using compassionate communication, active listening, and prompt follow-through.
  • Participate in Miami Valley Community Action Partnership (MVCAP) outreach activities and events as required.
  • Foster a cooperative, respectful, and supportive team environment through clear communication and collaboration.
  • Uphold ethical standards, treating all clients with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Follow all agency policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
