About The Position

We are seeking reliable and compassionate care staff to supervise youth residing at the Youth Futures residential shelter home. CARE staff are responsible for creating a safe and stable environment that allows youth to meet their immediate needs, find stability, connect with resources, and plan for their future —to rest, repair, and relaunch. CARE Staff are the primary floor staff in the shelter. They are responsible for the 24/7 supervision of up to 12 runaway and homeless youth in the shelter, with ages ranging from 12-18. CARE staff track youth in and out of the shelter, prepare meals, provide clothing and other essential necessities, maintain the shelter's cleanliness, process donations, and ensure the safety of both the youth and the facility. The position requires documenting resident behaviors and actions using a computer or documentation forms.

Requirements

• Must be a creative, energetic, problem-solver, with a passion for working with young people
• Must be 20 years old or over
• High School diploma or GED required
• 1-3 years of experience working with youth preferred
• Previous experience with persons experiencing homelessness, youth, and other vulnerable populations is preferred
• Basic computer skills required
• No evidence of criminal activity involving a dependent population or any violent criminal activity. A clear background check is required.
• Certification in CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers, or the ability to obtain
• Ability to read and write legibly, and understand written directives and policies

Nice To Haves

• Experience in UHMIS is desirable
• Spanish-speaking is a plus

Responsibilities

• Assist youth entering shelter for the first time, following intake procedures, and providing for immediate needs for a shelter available 24/7
• Maintaining a safe and clean environment for youth in crisis to rest, regroup, and relaunch, including performing janitorial duties (i.e., sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, deep cleaning bathrooms and kitchen, taking out trash, restocking supplies, etc.)
• Identify and communicate maintenance needs
• Safely and efficiently carry out emergency procedures in the case of fire, illness, accident, drug overdose, self-harm, administering CPR/ first aid if necessary, coordinating with medical or emergency personnel, and documenting incidents
• Provide constant supervision of resident youth at all times, and assist with morning and bedtime routines
• Perform security checks in and outside of the building to adequately maintain supervision of the house
• Using the computer to track youth in and out of the shelter, tracking services received by each youth, tracking critical monitoring checks, performing searches, and documenting incidents
• Providing clothing, bedding, hygiene supplies, or anything else a youth needs at intake or during stay
• Ensuring access to nutritious food, serving and documenting meals throughout the day as set out in the weekly menu, and managed by the shelter's Cook
• Monitoring and reporting healthcare needs or concerns, and ensuring compliance with the daily medication regimen
• Organizing donations and inventory
• Communicate at shift change, by completing paperwork, and entering documentation into the computer to make sure that all staff are up to date on needs and next steps
• Participate in regular supervision, training, and staff meetings
• Keep all required clearances and certifications up to date to have the skills and knowledge to best serve youth
• Ensure that all information is correctly, consistently, and accurately so that we can show needs, efforts, and results to funders, donors, and licensing agencies, and support future services
• Other duties as assigned
