About The Position

The position involves providing resources, referrals, and support to individuals and families staying at the Lewis House emergency shelter who have experienced domestic abuse and/or sexual assault. This includes promoting safety planning and goal planning with the individual/family and assisting with day-to-day duties in the shelter. The role also requires answering crisis hotline phone calls. The shelter operates and is staffed 24/7, and the schedule is full-time at 30 hours per week with a shift from 10 pm to 8 am, Wednesday night through Friday night.

Requirements

  • One to two years related experience working with victims of domestic and/or sexual violence.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
  • Completion of 40-hour sexual assault training prior to employment is preferred, but will help obtain if needed within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to the agency’s mission statement and core values at all times.
  • Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, information and referrals, and ongoing support and services to domestic and sexual violence victims/survivors and their family members.
  • Provide holistic advocacy services and resources to Lewis House residents, including safety planning, child/adult education, community connections/resources, housing, financial, legal (excluding legal advice), and building support networks.
  • Complete follow-up from police reports/calls and assist victims/survivors with initial needs.
  • Complete and assist with day-to-day duties in the shelter, including cleaning, assisting residents, and managing donations.
  • Respond to hospital calls to provide support to victims/survivors during forensic exams.
  • Facilitate and participate in group activities at Lewis House.
  • Participate in weekly case consultation with other advocates.
  • Facilitate educational support groups for victims/survivors.
  • Complete Housing Assessments and Safe at Home Applications with residents.
  • Maintain accurate data for statistical purposes and service delivery provisions.
  • Participate in or offer feedback to various workgroups within the organization.
  • Actively participate and attend staff meetings.
  • Pursue training opportunities for ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other duties as requested or delegated.
