The Craft Manager for the Sheetmetal Shop is responsible for all production activities in the execution of NAVY and Commercial ship maintenance and repair. This role involves planning, organizing, and scheduling repair and/or ship conversion activities within the Sheetmetal Department. The manager directly leads and manages supervisors within the department and operates with considerable latitude for actions or decisions, independently and on their own initiative with minimal supervision from the Director of Productions and/or Deputy Director of Production. Responsibilities also include maintaining all machinery and equipment for specific operational performance and ensuring inspections remain current. The manager ensures worker compliance with appropriate procedures in production, accuracy control, safety, cost, and quality assurance, while managing multiple projects to meet rigorous performance standards and demanding schedules. Compliance with all environmental, health and safety policies and quality standards is essential. The manager assists planners, managers, and superintendents with workflow and strategy, identifies, evaluates, and trains craft employees, reviews and maintains standard operating procedures, and ensures plant facilities and equipment are available for each project. The role requires responding positively and decisively in normal and emergency situations, maintaining hands-on skills to flex between tasks as necessary, and providing interdepartmental coordination of company operations. The manager must make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies and procedures, and analyze, evaluate, develop, and implement processes and systems within budget and schedule requirements.
